Fuel Saving Tips For Your Vehicle

Gas can be expensive. The price of gas fluctuates as seasons and circumstances change in our world. What you paid last week for a tank of gas may be a lot more or a lot less than what you will pay next week. In order to adapt to the unpredictability of gas prices, you need to have your own money saving plan. While you will still have to pay at the pump, you can follow these simple tips to ensure that you get the most out of your fuel while also saving some cash.

Monitor your Tires

When tires are under inflated or when wheels are poorly aligned fuel is wasted. The engine is forced to work harder, and it uses more fuel doing so. If your tires are out of line make sure you get them checked out and properly aligned by a professional. It is also important to check your tires. If you’re checking them after a long drive, let the tires cool down before you check their air pressure.

Remove Excess Weight From Your Vehicle

Remove unnecessary items from the vehicle. If you are picking up something with a lot of added weight make sure you remove it from your vehicle as soon as you reach your destination. Driving around with excess items in your car weighs your vehicle down. Store essentials, such as a spare tire or first aid kit, in the trunk. Less weight in your car means better mileage, and better mileage means less stops at the gas station.

Fuel Saving Tips For Your Vehicle

Try And Consolidate Your Trips And Errands

If you are running an errand it may be best to try and get a few more errands done along the way so that you are not making multiple trips in your vehicle throughout the day. If you are not leaving the house for something essential such as work or school, try and strategize when you go out to run your errands. Not going out during early morning rush hour or evening commutes when people are getting out of work will save you time and gas helping you avoid those stop-and-go conditions.

Avoid Excessive Idling

When picking someone up or waiting for something, it is best to turn off your engine. Keeping your engine on while you wait is sucking up fuel and wastes gas that could be used for getting you places.

Observe Speed Limits And Yellow Lights

Avoid speeding not only because you may get a ticket, but also because speeding decreases your miles per gallon. The same goes for yellow lights. If you accelerate to make the light you risk either getting a ticket, or stopping suddenly when you realize you won’t make the light in time.

Drive Gently And At A Consistent Pace When You Can

Quick, sudden accelerations guzzle a lot of gas. Be on alert when driving, and anticipate various traffic patterns ahead. Make gradual adjustments to your speed.

Use your air conditioning only when necessary. Turn off your air when you could have the windows down instead. Air conditioning sucks up fuel, and this is especially true in stop-and-go traffic.

By following these tips can help you save not only time and money at the pump, but these tips can also improve the overall well being of your vehicle. For more tips and guidance on vehicle care stop by your local automotive shop.
