4 Reasons For Your Teeth Becoming Sensitive

4 Reasons For Your Teeth Becoming Sensitive

Having sensitive teeth can be a common issue for many, but it can also be a sign that you have more underlying issues with your oral health. Sensitivity occurs when the enamel on your teeth becomes damaged, leaving your nerves exposed and causing them to become more sensitive.

If you feel you have this problem, here are some common reasons why this may be happening with your teeth. By being aware of these problems, you can reduce the habits and ensure you can relieve your sensitivity moving forward.

Consuming too many Acidic Foods and Drinks

Foods and drinks high in sugar such as fizzy drinks and sweets can be extremely harmful to your teeth when consumed regularly. They can break down your enamel and weaken the strength of your teeth. This is why it’s important to limit the amount you intake and try to avoid them if possible.

It’s also important not to brush your teeth shortly after consuming them as it can spread the acid around your mouth and only cause more damage. If you still wish to brush your teeth, do this 30 minutes after you’ve consumed them to prevent the spread of the acid in your mouth.

Not brushing thoroughly

If you brush your teeth too hard it can cause your enamel to wear off and actually cause harm to your teeth. The best way to avoid this is to use an electric toothbrush and let it do all the work for you. Floss afterwards so you can remove any remaining plaque buildup and be sure to change your toothbrush head at least every 3 months. If you need to do it more often than this, this is a sign that you’re brushing too hard.

Using Poor Dental Products

If you’re using cheap dental products for your teeth, it’s likely you’re not receiving the protection you need for your teeth. There are some toothpaste products that treat sensitive teeth specifically and these tend to be the ones with fluoride in them, so look for that specifically.

Teeth Grinding

Do you ever wake up in the morning with a hurting jawline, or find yourself clenching your jaw often because you feel stressed? This is a sign of teeth grinding and can be a reason why your teeth become sensitive. It can cause your enamel to wear over time if you do this often so it should be something you should discuss with your dentist Warrington-based if that’s the case. They will be able to examine your symptoms and understand the cause of your issues to help resolve it.

Final thoughts

Making these changes to your dental routine can be important to eradicate the issues you’re experiencing, but it can also be worth seeing a professional as there could be more severe issues that you’re suffering from too.
