How To Keep Your Gear Organized and Accounted For When Hunting

To give yourself the best chance of success during a hunting trip, it’s important to have the right gear. During a long weekend away, though, it can be difficult to prevent your gear from being lost, much less to try and keep it organized. The good news is that there are steps you can take to prevent the stress of constantly keeping after your gear. To help make your next hunting trip the best one yet, here are a few tips to help you keep your gear organized and accounted for when hunting.

Label Everything

Unless you’re hunting by yourself, there will probably be someone else on the hunting trip with you who has similar gear. Rather than trying to figure out whose gear is whose, it’s easier to label your gear so you always know where it is. The labels don’t have to be fancy; a simple marking with your initials is more than adequate. The short time you spend labeling your gear, though, will pay big dividends when it comes time to head home and you need to sort out everyone’s gear.

Use a Hunting Backpack

Hunting puts unique demands on certain gear that can damage gear that’s not specifically designed to be out in the extreme conditions. That’s why it’s a good idea to look for a hunting backpack that’s created for the type of hunting you plan to do. For example, if you plan to do waterfowl hunting, then looking for a waterfowl hunting backpack for sale is a good idea. A specially designed backpack will ensure you have all the storage compartments, tie-ons, waterproofing, and other capabilities you need for a successful hunting trip. While most hunting backpacks are versatile and can be used in multiple hunting situations, make sure that your backpack meets the specific weather and carrying needs of your particular trip.

Separate Larger Containers

When you’re packing up to head out for a hunting trip, large containers are crucial to help you bring along everything you need. The problem is, by the time you arrive at your destination, it seems as though everything gets all mixed up and disorganized. To prevent this problem, it’s a good idea to use separators and organizers within these larger containers to ensure everything stays in its place. Then, when you arrive at your destination, you can pull everything out easily and be ready to go.

Use Tracking Devices

For equipment that’s especially valuable, it may be a good idea to attach bluetooth tracking devices to the equipment to ensure you can find it even if it becomes misplaced. As long as you have your phone, you can easily find the location of any lost item, often without the need for cellular coverage. If you plan on hunting at several different sites during your trip, this could prove essential if you leave something behind at one site and don’t realize it until you arrive at the next site. For irreplaceable and expensive gear, this is the best method for protecting it while you’re on a trip.

As important as it is to make it back home with all your gear, it’s also important that you don’t overthink it. If you spend your entire trip worried about the location of your gear, you won’t be able to enjoy the hunt itself. Keep your methods simple and straightforward, and leave whatever you won’t need on the hunt itself in the car or in your lodging.
