Downhill Mountain Biking In Arizona

Adrenaline rushes, thrills and exhilaration can be had for many people who enjoy the sport of downhill mountain biking.  Arizona is a dry state, full of rich history and the wild west. Its full of stories of goldmining from hundreds of years ago and lost gold mines.

Some people find “golden” opportunities in a sport called, downhill mountain biking.  We are going to go over some of the finest places to experience this within the state of Arizona.

Downhill mountain biking is a particular category of mountain biking which is preformed and practiced upon steep hills, sharp terrain that many times which will include drops, jumps, rock gardens, as well many other types of “difficulties”.

Hangover Trail in Sedona, Arizona

This outstanding downhill mountain biking trail consists of three miles and is definitely not for the weak at heart; for these trails are only for expert racers.  It is a single track and runs at 4,468 feet in elevation. You need to be in top shape if you want to compete here.

Hangover is what would be called a “technical trail”, if you make a mistake here you can be easily injured. So be sure you are able and ready to handle expert trails.  If you are experienced enough to try this type of trail, keep in mind that you will be experiencing abrupt rock rolls, narrow single tracks, as well wide open views. So if you are ready, strap your bike on your trunk rack and head to Hangover Trail.

Schultz Creek in Flagstaff, Arizona

Now this track is quite a bit longer. It runs a total of twenty-five miles in length and is more for the intermediate racer.  Holding an elevation of 7,152 feet, this track is meant to be difficult for people who are used to sea level.

Twenty-five miles does sound quite like a long, never ending track, but believe it or not, around six to eight miles of this long track is downhill, which will give you a great view of the mountains on the way down and get to relax while doing it.

Broken Arrow Trail System in Sedona, Arizona

This trail is designed for more the advanced racers and explorers. Ranging a total of ten miles, Broken Arrow Trail is a single track and holds 4,158 feet in elevation and even the option for night riding. How neat is that? Just be sure to bring a bright bike headlight so you can see well.

Now, it’s in your best interest before you decide to take on this type of trail to remember that some of the trails in the Broken Arrow Trail System will be very easy tracks. They are marked pretty clearly though. Just be sure you don’t accidentally get on one of the more advanced trails if you are not an advanced rider because people can and do get seriously hurt.

Also, keep in mind that if you see assign for twofold black diamond symbol, make sure that you are fit, skilled and able to handle these extra difficult trails.
