5 Useful Tips to Conserve Water at Home

Water crisis is one of the most challenging issues that the world is facing today. As a result, it is important to conserve water and use it judiciously. It is important for each and every person to understand the gravity of the issue and contribute their bit to water conservation without taking this precious resource for granted. Here are a few tips to conserve water at home.

Use RO Purifiers with ‘Save Water’ Technology

The conventional RO purification technology that is widely used for purifying water rejects a very high percentage of water amounting to nearly 80%. RO purifiers are very much required as they are the best bet for purifying water high in TDS and they often come equipped with UV and sediment filters as well. Using RO purifiers with ‘Save water’ technology are the best RO system for home as it helps in conserving water besides keeping the purifying levels optimum.

The rejected water in such purifiers reduces to 50% and that too is stored in a separate tank so that it can be utilised for other household cleaning purposes. With the ability of this kind of purifier to purify water and also save water, there’s no doubt that it is the best RO system for home.

Turn Off the Faucets

Many people often have the habit of keeping the faucet continuously running while brushing, shaving, cleaning dishes, washing face. This results in wasting approximately 6 litres of water per minute. Inculcate the habit of closing the taps and opening them only when required, thereby saving the precious water from going down the drain.

Always Use Full Loads

Washing machines and dishwashers are very commonly used in homes today. They consume huge amounts of water. Make sure that you run full loads in them to cut out unnecessary washes in between. This would be a great contribution towards your water conservation efforts.

Fix the Leaks

It is common to find dripping taps at homes and people hardly bother about it. You should actually check and repair for all leakages in toilets, faucets and showerheads. A single dripping tap results in wastage of 15 litres of water a day, while a leaky toilet can waste up to 200 gallons in one day. Fix all leakages to save huge amounts of water, which otherwise unnecessarily go down the drain.

Refrain from Watering Plants During the Day

The most effective way to conserve water while watering plants is to water them before dawn. Water them before 6 A.M. or post 8 P.M. and that too in short bursts. This helps because evaporation is minimal at these times. Watering in bursts helps water to seep to the roots efficiently.

Most families in cities today need to pay for their water consumption. If they consume it judiciously conserving in whatever way they can, it helps in reducing their water bills too. Conserving water also helps the environment.
