Work for Your Rights: 3 Steps to Ending Maltreatment at Your Job

Being treated with respect is very important and is a requirement in the workplace. If you are struggling with maltreatment or any kind of harassment in your workplace, getting your work done and feeling comfortable can be impossible. While it can be hard to get this type of treatment to stop, there are three steps that you should follow if you feel that you are not being treated properly. This could help to stop the maltreatment and ensure your rights are represented.

Keep a Record

If you feel that you are the victim of bullying, harassment, or discrimination in the workplace, the most important thing that you need to do is to keep a record of the incidents. If the maltreatment seems to be systemic, you will need to record all of the incidents with dates, names, and other information to ensure you remember all situations that took place. This will provide you with clarity in the event you need to escalate a complaint.

Discuss with Manager

Another important step if you are being victimized in the workplace is to discuss the situations with your manager. Your manager will have an obligation to take care of the situations and address the concern as soon as possible. If you feel that your manager is not handling the situations properly, you should escalate it to the next level of management and even your HR department. Be sure to keep a record of all communications and discussions you have including keeping copies of any follow-up emails you may have after escalating the situation.

Hire Legal Support

Finally, it would be a good idea to hire legal support such as Maurer Rifkin if you are not being treated appropriately. In situations of maltreatment an experienced legal team, such as the team at Rifkin Legal, can provide you with legal support to ensure your rights are represented. If you feel that your employer is not addressing your concerns or you have been fired because of complaints that you have filed, you should contact your attorney immediately to start the process of having your rights properly represented.

Being treated with respect and fairness is a basic human right that we are all entitled to. In the workplace, those that do not treat their employees with respect could be in violation of a variety of rules and regulations. Following these three steps will help to ensure that your rights are represented and that your employer starts to treat you better again.
