Visit The Magnificent Qutub Minar In Delhi
The capital of India always breathes history. This place has a lot of heritage monuments which are worth visit. That is why; this is one of the most popular tourist destinations in this country apart from being the capital of India. This city has a lot of marvellous monuments, historical tombs and others which should be visited when one is travelling to Delhi.
Among all the monuments and other things which should be visited in this city, one definitely has to visit Qutub Minar. This is the most popular tourist site in the city to be precise. This monument was built by Qutub ud din Aibak who was a Mughal emperor. It is said that this monument was built to rejoice the beginning of the Mughal rule in the Delhi sultanate after the last king of the prevailing Hindu kingdom was defeated. This monument has a height if 73 meters and it was built in the year 1193.
This tower has five storeys and each one has a balcony. The balcony of the first floor is of 15 meters in diameter and then it starts reducing by every floor and it gets reduced to 5 meters at the top floor. The first three floors of this magnificent monument have been built with the help of red sand stones and the rest of the two floors are made from marbles and red sand stones. The other special thing is, in the premise of this monument there is the first ever built mosque of India and its name is Quwwatul Islam mosque. When one is entering the mosque. They will get to read an inscription written on the entry gate of the mosque. The information provided here says that this mosque was built with the materials which were acquired after destroying 27 Hindu temples. Apart from that mosque, there stands an iron pillar which is said to be very sacred. It is believed that, if one can hold the pillar with their hands from the back, their wish can be fulfilled.
History speaks a lot of stories regarding the building of this monument. The most famous one that does the round is, Muslims after defeating all the Hindu empires in India wanted to build something which will signify their victory. As Delhi was the centre of rule, the built the monument here. No matter what, this is indeed a creation which one should see. This is indeed one of the magical creations in India. The name of the monument comes itself from the name of the creator of this monument, that is Qutub ud din Aibak. But he started building the monument but could not complete it. He could only build the basement of the building before he died. Then came the next king, whose name was Iltutmish and he built the first three storeys of this monument. Finally, the last two towers were built by Firoz Shah Tughlaq.
That is why; there has been a difference in the building material of the monument as well. Qutub Minar is one of the most visited places in Delhi. So, once you are in Delhi, you cannot afford to miss this place.
