Tips To Travel Safely In Europe

When talking about traveling, safety is a big topic. The last thing you want to happen on your trip is an event that causes loss, injury or hurt. As crime happens all over the world, generally there are no “bad” and good countries. Is Europe safe? Experts say yes, but we like to give you some tips to stay safe while visiting your dream destinations.

Tips To Travel Safely In Europe

HAZARDS ON THE STREET

Europe has a large share of pickpockets and thieves that can separate you from your money. “I didn’t feel a thing” is a part of all stories. Here are the most common threats:

Bugged by Vespas. This little scooters that can be so annoying often hold a team of snatchers. Be careful, they can be eying that camera that you just bought before your trip. Clutch your camera bag tightly.
Pickpockets. In Barcelona, Florence, Rome or some other top European tourist destinations you will likely see or hear about travelers having their purses snatched or pockets or their pockets picked. Men should not wear their wallets in their back pockets, while women shouldn’t wear a purse. Below-the-belt security wallets are the best to carry valuables, including your credit cards, passport, money).
Women with over-swaddled babies in the Summer. Don’t get distracted by the lovely kid, usually the over-the-dress woman is hiding her wandering hands.
Cardboard-carrying kids. Unwashed kids used a cardboard with something written on it to get you distracted and pick you clean. Push them away gently and move.

TERRORISM

As endless politics, religion, and war collide, there are increasing terrorist incidents all over the globe, not only in America. Europe has suffered terrorist attacks that took the lives of hundreds of innocent people since 2004. So what can you do to plan a safe European trip? For now, capital cities carry the possibility of terrorism, so you might consider visiting a smaller city. If your dream places are the greatest cities in Europe, then check out the terrorism alert situation. And make sure you know where the U.S. embassy is located in that city.

VIOLENT HURT OR INJURY

You don’t need to avoid pubs and bars in Europe – just walk away from any confrontations.

MINIMIZE THE POSSIBILITY OF LOSS

Don’t grab that wallet. When you read a sign saying “watch for pickpockets” don’t check if your wallet is still there.
ID, please. If you are approached by a stranger that wears unrecognized uniform ask to see identification.
Blend IN. Wear appropriate clothing. Avoid wearing that advertise your political opinions. And don’t wear expensive jewelry. Relax and look like you are born there.
