Simple Steps To Repair Your Gas Grill Leaks

Here’s a simple guide that will help you in fixing the most common gas grill problem – the leaks. Below are the step-by-step instructions that you should follow. Before you start gas grill repair, you should know some basics about gas grills.

How does it work?

A gas grill is a cooking appliance that uses propane to fuel the fire that is needed to BBQ food. The gas passes from the fuel tank to the BBQ burners through a hose pipe. The tank has a valve to connect or disconnect this pipe from the fuel tank. The BBQ also have knobs to control the supply of fuel to the burners.

Because the appliance is very simple, there’s not much that can go wrong with it. If the igniter doesn’t spark, figuring out what is wrong is pretty easy and the major culprit usually is, gas leakage.

Testing fuel tank valve for leaks

Turn the fuel supply knobs to the off position.
Turn off the valve on the propane tank by moving it counterclockwise.
Mix a solution of water and dish-washing liquid in a small container.
Dip the paintbrush into this solution and apply this solution to the valve and the hose pipe.
If you see bubble formation anywhere in the hose or the connections between the hose and valve, it is a sign that there is a leak.
If the leak is near the connections, tighten the components and retest for leaks.
You should replace the component that is still leaking.

Testing hose fittings for leaks

Apply the solution with the help of the brush on the fittings on the grill side and the control knobs, just the way you did before.
One by one, repeat this with every control knob, make sure you have turned the knob to high position.
If you see leaks in any of the knobs, you should replace them.
