Handicraft is a big name when it comes to India’s business with other countries. With a blend of different cultures India offers a wide range of handicrafts coming straight from different states which are highly influenced by the culture followed in the respective states. Making handicrafts is an ancient trend, at the time when there was nothing defined, when people used to live a very common and regular life and there was nothing much to do, so people started investing their time in exploring the art and talent they have and hence that led to the evolution of handicrafts.

In the beginning, the craft men started making the basic items like utensils, tools, clothing, vessels for storing the household stuff but later they started learning about home decor hence they came up with making home decor items like paintings, clay pots and wall hangings, ornaments etc. If we dig in the history of India, art and craft was one of the highlighted section, with the passage of time people started taking handicraft making professionally.

In India, every state has its own speciality in terms of art and craft, people in India have been using the handicrafts from many years now, people started making handicrafts to fulfil basic needs but later it become professional, some of the famous handicraft items include bamboo items, batik sarees, jaipuri bandhani work, temple jewellery, Dhokra art, stone craft, wooden decor items etc. Different states have their own speciality like Agra is popular for making marble handicraft, leather shoes and slippers. Banaras is known for Banarasi sarees, hand embroidery work is famous from the state of Uttarpradesh whereas East India is full of bamboo trees hence they have lot to offer when it comes to handicraft made from bamboo like bamboo baskets, eco-friendly crafts made from straws , wood, fibers etc.

Mizoram is known for its handicraft made especially from straws. The seven sisters are also popular for making extremely beautiful black and grey clay potter. Orissa and Bihar are popular for making the best Madhubani paintings in the world, it is said that the craft men are blessed with this amazing talent for making mind blowing painting which have no comparison around the world, this being the reason Indian handicraft items are popular worldwide.

West side of India is nowhere less than any other region of India; this region has a lot to offer when it comes to handicraft. The three major states in the west Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra are popular for their wooden decorative items, metal crafts, rajasthani dresses which is also called bandhani work, gems and stones, lak jewellery, puppets are quite popular from Rajasthan, Leather craft specially slippers and shoes made from camel skin, kolhapuri chappals from Maharashtra are imported worldwide and are available in plenty of colours and designs.

Now, one can easily buy handicrafts online hence even if you don’t have time to travel to any state in India but you want to have the feel of the place than nothing can be better than decorating your home with the special art from the respective state.
