Now, if the court agrees on the spousal alimony, then the judge also have to decide whether the alimony is to be permanent or for the short time. Well, for this also the State law has different guidelines. The duration of the support is again decided on the earning condition of the spouse. If the spouse is not working and financial unstable, then in the short term support the support ends when the spouse gets the job. Whereas, for permanent support the factors like the job does not effect. The permanent support or the long term support runs till life. So, basically the whole Spousal Support or alimony only depends on the guidelines and decision of judges.
