This year marks the 50th consecutive year that a Ford Mustang has been introduced to the market, and Ford Motor Company isn’t taking that lightly. With throngs of competition in the muscle car category, there is little room for subpar performance. No one likes a disappointment, especially when it comes to an iconic car such as the Mustang. So what did Ford deliver for this big anniversary?
For the past ten years or so, the Mustang came back into popularity with its mix of past and present designs. As great as the new-age retro designs were, Ford has finally decided to move to a more futuristic look instead seeking past design inspiration. You can see this immediately when you first gaze at the 2015 Ford Mustang GT. One may say it resembles something that would come out of a Batman movie, with its sleek body and blacked out features. The interior is a whole new world, equipped with aircraft-inspired design and real aluminum accents to make you feel like the hardcore driver you really are. It mixes the right amount of shiny knobs and smooth panels to give the vehicle a look that even the most old-fashioned Mustang fanatic couldn’t turn down.
However, the 2015 Ford Mustang GT isn’t just a pretty face. Take a gander under the slick hood and you will find a 5.0-liter V-8 engine. This monster puts out 435-horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels, leaving no room for sissies. These intense performance upgrades came about due to a variety of improvements that ultimately led to a better air-fuel mixture. In addition to the increase in power, these improvements also resulted in enhanced fuel economy, a must in today’s society of ever increasing gas prices.
To add to the powerful engine, this version of Ford’s Mustang isn’t just for straight-line racing. New improvements allow the car to master curves and mountains in the blink of an eye. Gone are the days of going cautiously around corners with your beloved Mustang. This new breed is starting to lean more towards the Sports car category, rather than its previous muscle car identity, which could put off original Mustang enthusiasts. Despite these potentially controversial upgrades, however, the 2015 Mustang is undeniably fun to drive, no matter what kind of driver you may be.
Besides the big improvements, there are smaller but noticeable changes in the newest version of this vehicle. The glove compartment now features a separate area for the owner’s manual, something that used to take up a majority of the glove box. They also added a “Line Lock” feature that automatically holds the brakes for 15 seconds while the rear tires spin out, something that can come in handy for those frequenting the drag strips. The Mustang is also bursting with technology with features like front collision warning, blind spot monitoring and selectable drive modes for varying weather and driving conditions.
In short, the 2015 Ford Mustang GT is one hell of a vehicle. It may not be a carbon copy of its successors, but that shouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing. Check out your local showroom to get a look at this groundbreaking car and let us know what you think of the upgrades!
