Why breakfast is the meal of the gods

Like all men, both great and small, I have come to realize that one does not need supernatural powers in order to feel like a god. All it takes is one good, well-balanced breakfast to put the ‘divine’ in any busy day. When we talk about breakfast we are talking about feeding our bodies all the important nutrients it needs; making us ready to take on any challenge that life can throw at us. Unlike lunch and dinner, breakfast has its own unique texture and importance, and it is crucial that we make a diet that fulfill all of our nutritional needs, without going overboard.
Why breakfast is the meal of the gods

Why eat breakfast?

Due to our busy schedules, we sometimes skip breakfast and go straight to lunch. This I snot good, because you deprive your body of all the important nutrients it needs. When our bodies wake up, they are confused and disoriented. The night cycle had drained most of the energy that we consumed during dinner time. When nutrients are not present, the body goes into what is know as ‘starvation mode’; increasing our insulin levels and making our metabolic processes run slower.
It does that to conserve energy and make every stored calorie in our organism count. This can lead to obesity and diabetes and it is a major problem in many developing countries. Eating breakfast will tell the body that it has enough energy to go around, allowing it to burn the already stored fat; making us look and feel fantastic.

What kind of breakfast should we eat?

A well balanced breakfast should consist of all the important vitamins and nutrients, such as carbohydrates, proteins, fat, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B etc. So when we plan our breakfast menu we have to take all those things into consideration, as well as sugar and trans-fat content. Avoid eating sugary cereals, for they are jam-packed with dangerous monosaccharides that could cause you a  lot of trouble in the long run.
When we talk about healthy we must exclude sugar and trans-fat from our diet. You should avoid eating vegetables for breakfast as well. This is because vegetables give you no energy, although they are a great source of vitamins and minerals.
Your breakfast should consist of high energy foods; eggs, bacon, fruit, are just to name few. Try to include as much food groups as possible! An average person should eat no more than 500 calories of carbohydrates, proteins and fat. Fat, contrary to popular belief, is actually a very good energy source – as long as it is not combined with high amounts of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates include: fruit, waffles, pancakes, bread, flapjacks, French toast etc.
You must eat less of that and more of the healthy fat and oils we would usually avoid. Olive oil, almonds and fish are ideal for getting that omega-3 fatty acids as well as maintaining balanced energy levels.

Sample Breakfast Menu

  •  1 poached egg
  • 2 strips of bacon
  • Glass of orange juice
  • Fresh berries

This breakfast will give you about 500 calories, of which there would be about 50% carbohydrates, 35% fat and 15% protein.
Note that in order to get the full benefits of this nutritious breakfast, you must coordinate it with your other daily meals. For lunch you could have a nice chicken breast with a piece of toast and potato salad.
