The Microneedling Guide

If you’re interested in beauty treatments, you may have begun to hear about Microneedling. It’s a new kind of treatment that harnesses your body’s own healing processes to boost the health and appearance of your skin.

You may be wondering what it’s like, if it can help you, and what the recovery period is. Fortunately, we’re here to help explain, so you can feel confident about booking. If you’re interested in Microneedling, London is host to an increasing number of aestheticians, clinics and specialists so making a booking couldn’t be easier.

What is Microneedling?

To cover the basics first, microneedling is a beauty treatment which involves using small needles to penetrate the skin, creating dozens, if not hundreds of tiny wounds.

What Does it Do?

If you read the last sentence without context, your first question is going to be ‘why!?’ Why would you want lots of tiny wounds on your face? The answer reveals the true genius of the idea behind microneedling.

Whenever your body repairs a wound to the skin, it creates new supplies of collagen and elastin. These are two important substances that make your skin look and feel firm. If you create lots of trivial wounds in the same area, your body will pump it full of collagen as part of the healing process, and you’ll find you look great!

Who Can it Help?

The collagen and elastin created by the Microneedling process can help to fill out areas of wrinkles where the skin is showing signs of ageing. The wrinkles will disappear and the skin will once more appear youthfully full and elastic.

Microneedling can also help people trying to heal or reduce the appearance of acne scars, as the healing process gradually replaces the scarring with fresh, healthy looking skin!

Does it Hurt?

This is the question most commonly asked about Microneedling. A degree of pain is inevitable, but it’s not as painful as you might expect from the description. Many people compare it to the level of discomfort you experience when getting a tattoo, but as each area is treated only once, rather than passed over with the needle multiple times, the sensation passes more quickly.

How Long Does it Take to Recover?

Recovering from a Microneedling session is the most important part of the process. It’s in recovery that your skin produces fresh collagen and begins to look even better than it has before. In the period immediately after a treatment you may well feel uncomfortable. Your skin will be swollen, and reddened and it could hurt. Both swelling and redness subside after two or three days – and it’s important to let this happen naturally.

Simply taking a bit of time to relax, avoiding excessive hot or cold temperature and applying moisturiser generously will help your skin recover, and soon you’ll be looking younger and healthier, and feeling great too!
