How To Prepare For Christmas And New Year Parties

Just Turn Up

That is the outlook many people have when it comes to the upcoming festive party season. Just turn up to parties, kick back, relax, and just go with the flow. While that may sound cool and even rebellious, most of us know that the best way to get ready is to plan everything meticulously.

Admittedly, we can’t plan in advance how much we are going to drink, or who we are going to try to avoid at a particular party, but they too will be thoughts in our head. What are the key factors to preparing for a Christmas or New Year party?

If You’re the Host

Should you be the one hosting a party, then quite simply you need to deliver for your guests. Food, drinks, entertainment, and anything else should all be of the highest order so that you impress everyone in attendance.
If you have taken the easy way out and decided not to host your own party this year, there are still many things that need your consideration.

What to Wear

This boils down to where the party takes place, and what sort of event it is. If it is your work party at an upmarket hotel, then you are best looking for classic formal clothes so that you fit in and don’t draw too much attention to yourself.
In the event that you and your friends have booked a table in town, then you are free to wear whatever you want, but still check up on any dress code requirements for places you may visit.

Getting There (and Back)

Most of the time we would have taken care of the getting to a restaurant or into town, but have we thought about getting home? At the very least, ensure that you have two or three telephone numbers for taxi companies saved in your phone, although for true peace of mind book the return in advance.
Not only will this stop you having the awkward scenario of getting in a cab with your boss, for example, it will have your routine in place to prevent you making any regrettable decisions once you have had a few drinks.

Drinking and Avoidance

While we said that you couldn’t always plan in terms of what or how much you will drink or who you wish to avoid, there are a few things you can do. If you struggle to regulate yourself once you’ve had a few, talk to some close friends or colleagues beforehand and perhaps agree to share a few bottles of wine, for example, and leave it there. Truth is, you will probably be pleasantly surprised at how many people feel the same way you do.
As for avoiding people? Come on, it’s Christmas, you can be civil and friendly to everyone without needing to strike up a lifelong friendship!
