Home Decor Trends For 2021: What You Can Expect

This year, the Covid pandemic has had a huge impact on many different industries and sectors and one which has seen an increase like no other is the home and decor industry. As many of us were spending a lot more time in our homes this year, this led to an increase in the number of people making home improvements and tackling DIY, with many forced to reimagine the spaces in their homes to meet a new lifestyle. Whether this was creating a new home office, redesigning a living room or making space in the kitchen for home learning, just about every inch of the home had an uplift and refresh this year.

With this in mind, here’s an insight into the home decor trends set to take off next year. So, if you’ve yet to tackle the kitchen or refresh the bathroom, here are some things that you can expect from the world of home decor in 2021.

Luxury you can live in

As more people work from home than ever before, people are wanting to create a nice home and workspace which they can utilise on a daily basis. 2021 is set to be hugely focused on luxury that is easy to live in and as so many people have had to make changes to their homes and personal lives over the past year, more ideas are being embraced. Next year, home decor is set to be all about durable fabrics, comfortable furnishings and upholstery and chic furniture pieces which can be utilised all around the home.

Indoor plants

Indoor plants and succulents have become hugely popular over the past couple of years and they’re set to become even more popular in 2021. Indoor plants and trees are set to continue their huge ascent and become a permanent fixture in most homes. They help to freshen the air, bring the calm and serenity of the outdoors in and add pops of colour and texture to rooms.

Living for the weekend

After seemingly endless months of restrictions, many of us have had to change our usual weekend plans and bring those activities that we loved so much into the comfort of our homes. Coffee machine sales are up massively compared to 2019, streaming subscriptions have soared and meal prep boxes are more popular than ever before as we get used to doing more in the confines of our homes.

As well as this, people have focused on transforming their homes into becoming a fully functional weekend space, paying close attention to the comforts in their homes. Window fixtures and fittings, such as allusion blinds, which provide privacy and block out the light, are set to become a popular addition in people’s homes, especially as we move towards the spring and mornings become lighter, allowing them to have a lie-in or relax at home. Luxury bedsheets and coverings are also set to become more popular as people invest in the comfort and quality of their sleep.

Dark tones and hues

Dark colours, tones and hues are set to be the go-to colour scheme in 2021. Dark colours are perfect for creating a snug and cosy atmosphere, especially in the living room and bedroom. They make the perfect backdrop for bold and daring artwork, metallic accents and accessories and bright colours.

Multipurpose spaces

We’ve all had to make our homes work to our new way of life this year, whether that has meant working from your kitchen table, transforming a corner of your living room into a home office or creating a home school in your children’s bedrooms.

As we move into 2021, hopefully, the effects of the Covid pandemic will soon be behind us, but homeworking is set to be a new way of life for many, multipurpose spaces are set to be a huge trend when it comes home decor. Rather than working from a drab desk in the corner of a room, get ready to totally transform your space with functional desk and chair setups, bright colours and the use of scent and indoor plants.
