Starting Your Claim: The First 3 Steps

Starting Your Claim: The First 3 Steps

Accidents happen all the time and there are many different types of accidents. Road traffic accidents are one of the most common types of accidents and the injuries can range from scrapes and cuts to severe injuries and sometimes even death. Other accidents include trips, slips and falls, which may occur in a public domain or in the workplace. Most of us just laugh of these incidents and try to forget it ever happened but in many cases, there may be an entitlement to compensation. If your accident and injury was caused by someone else, whether through negligence or carelessness, you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation. If you have been the victim of an accident, you can start your claim straight away. These three steps will get you on track for a successful compensation claim.

Record Details

It is important to take a note of any details of the accident, as these can be important when making your claim for compensation. Some important points to consider are the date and time of the incident and the location. You should also ask for the name, address and telephone number of anyone at the scene. This will include the other party and any witnesses to the incident. Witnesses can play a vital part in the success of a claim. The more details you have, the better and the sooner you get this, the better your chances of a successful claim.

Starting Your Claim: The First 3 Steps

Seek Medical Attention

When you have left the scene of the incident, you should seek medical attention. If your injury is severe, this should be the first part of the claims process, before taking down any information. Otherwise, you should visit the doctor as soon as possible after the accident. This is important as it means you will be able to determine more about any health repercussions related to the accident and also for the benefit of your claim. As part of any claim, you will usually be asked to provide medical records, so this is of up most importance.

Phone Claims Company

After you have documented the details of the accident and visited the doctor, it is time to contact the claims company. You will be asked to provide information on the nature of the accident, the parties involved and the injuries sustained or damage to your vehicle. You will also be asked to provide evidence related to the accident and injury. The claims company will be able to tell you if they think you have a case. If you do, they will then handle the claim process for you. They may also be able to give you a rough estimate on the value of your claim. The claims company will handle the process for you by dealing with an in-house lawyer and will keep you updated on the progress of the claim. It may seem like a complicated progress, but making a claim is actually very simple and the rewards can be well worth the effort.
