The NCAA University announced the suspension of the Indiana freshmen Hanner Mosquera-Perea and Peter Jurkin from nine games. This was as a result of the outcome of improper benefits that they were suspected to have received from a coach from AAU while they were in the high school. Mark Adams is the coach from the AAU who offered these benefits for the freshmen players. Length of suspension was appealed by the Indiana for accepting the money that the players have asked to pay back for charity. The players are expected to repay the amount in the form of donations contributed to the charity.
Indiana at present is appealing for the number of games that these players were suspended. Once the NCAA announces the amount of games that the athletes would be held back and then the players would become eligible for playing in the first season of IU of this year that is to be played against Bankers Life Fieldhouse at the Butler on the December 15th. They are to commence with the first game against Bryant that will start on Friday along with their suspensions. According to the Tuesday’s announcement proclaimed by the NCAA brings an end to the 8 months old speculation that has been prevailing about the IU freshman. As we all know that the IU freshmen began on the May 2011 according to the ESPN report that was reported about the non-profit organization A-Hope that was started by Mark Adams who was a coach in the Indiana Elite AAU. This is a marvelous organization that provided complete support for the aspiring athletes who were coming from other foreign countries.
Adams was also trying to become the legal guardian for Perea while he was their coach at the AAU University premises. But the chief reason for the huge benefits that was quoted by the NCAA is that about the Adams special donations for athletics that ranged up to a pleasant amount of $ 185 for the University exclusively. Between the years of 1986 – 1992 he has provided two small gifts worth $20 and three large gifts of worth $30. Adams has stopped donating to the University after these years. And therefore the entire processes of donations were contributed before the birth of Jurkin and Perea as we see from the happenings.
This is considered as the chief reason for the revolt and violation of the rules prescribed by NCAA when Adams started providing Perea, Jurkin and other former IU player Tijan Jobe those incredible benefits. In the month of June Indiana filed with NCAA a report specifying about the benefits. The report portrayed that Perea was provided huge benefits that would range up to $9,007.92, while Jobe received $2,655.00 and Jurkin $6,003.51. The University revealed that the important benefits about the benefits enjoyed by Jobe without realizing the two year eligibility of IU during the year of 2010. This IU is to file an appeal during this week along with the Student Athlete Reinstatement Committee against to the total number of games to be penalized on these players.
