What you Should Look for in the Upcoming Redmi Note 8 & Redmi Note 8 Pro

Post the unveiling of Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro in August this year in China, it’s much expected launch into the Indian market in October 2019 is being seen as a game changer. Taking the Redmi Note’s legacy forward, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is being touted to be more popular than its predecessor, Pro 7 in India. Over three lakh pieces of Redmi Note 8 Pro were sold in China in its first sale and Xiaomi expects to set a new record with their Indian sales too. Here’s how the Redmi Note 8 specs vary from those of Redmi Note 8 Pro specs:

Design

Redmi has so far kept the look and design of the regular Note and Pro Note variants of its most phone models similar. This seems to change with Redmi Note 8 series. While the four-camera system in Redmi Note 8 is placed on the left-hand side top corner of the rear, the rear camera system in Redmi Note 8 Pro is situated in the middle- similar to the rear camera placement in Redmi K20.

Display Screen Size

There is a slight difference in the display screen sizes of Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro. Redmi Note 8 Pro has a larger screen with 6.53-inch full HD+ display in comparison with Redmi Note 8’s 6.39-inch display.

Hardware

Redmi Note 8 runs on a Snapdragon Qualcomm 665 processor coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and 128 GB internal storage, and the Redmi Note 8 Pro is powered by a MediaTek Helio G90T processor paired with upto 8GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage capacity to enable an immersive gaming experience with its liquid cooling support. The Redmi Note 8 comes in three RAM and storage variants – 4GB + 64 GB, 6GB + 64 GB, and 6GB + 128 GB, whereas the Redmi Note 8 Pro also comes in 6GB RAM + 64GB storage, 6GB + 128GB and 8GB RAM + 128GB variants.

Battery with fast charging support

Both the upcoming phones of Redmi Note 8 series support type-C fast charging on a 18W charger that comes in the accessories box. However, the battery of Redmi Note 8 Pro with a capacity of 4500 mAh is certainly powerful in comparison with 4000 mAh battery capacity of Redmi Note 8.

Camera System

The camera module is the most premium feature of Redmi Note 8 series of mobiles. Both the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro feature quad cameras each on the back panel situated inside a vertical camera module. Despite the similarity of camera module design and the number of cameras, the cameras of Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro differ in their primary sensor resolutions of 48 MP with f/1.79 aperture and 64 MP with f/1.7 aperture respectively. The 64 MP primary camera sensor of Redmi Note 8 Pro is capable of capturing big 9248 X 6936 resolution images – a first in the entire Xiaomi range so far.

Other rear cameras of both the Redmi Note 8 series mobiles include a 2 MP depth sensor, 8 MP ultra-wide lens, and 2 MP macro lens.

Both these phones also accommodate a single selfie camera sensor on the front, situated inside the drop dot notch. The Redmi Note 8 comes with a 13 MP image sensor while the Redmi Note 8 Pro features a 20 MP camera sensor, and these selfie cameras are embedded with AI features to enable the users to experiment with various filters and enhance the selfies as per their requirement.

High Expectations

Given the variation in specs of these Redmi Note 8 series phones, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is certainly more expensive than the Redmi Note 8, as revealed by their recent August launch in China. The Pro 8 version is expected to do better than its predecessor Pro 7 in India, for its power and unmatchable gaming experience. Despite the massive upgrade of Redmi Note 8 models, the good news is that their prices are almost the same as that of the Redmi Note 7 series phones i.e, the Redmi Note 7 & the Redmi Note 7 Pro barring the taxes and government duties. The Redmi Note 8 retails at CNY 999 (roughly Rs. 10,000), CNY 1,199 (roughly Rs. 12,000) and CNY 1,399 (roughly Rs. 14,000) for the 4GB + 64GB model, 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB models respectively, whereas the Redmi Note 8 Pro’s price is set at CNY 1,399 (roughly Rs. 14,000) for the 6GB + 64GB variant, CNY 1,599 (roughly Rs. 16,000) for 6GB + 128GB model, and CNY 1,799 (roughly Rs. 18,000) for the 8GB + 128GB variant.
