What Makes Palakkad A Must Visit Spot?

So, glorious days on backwaters or floating in the Periyar Lake or a taste of Kochi’s spice are all just a plan away. This vacation visits a little-known town of Kerala, Palakkad. Palakkad is located 47 km west of Coimbatore. It is an expanse of a valley dotted with hills. The place can be well-described as a village that wants to be a town. When the morning ray falls on its golden paddy fields the image is glorious, you will feel divine. It is a right place for nature lover. Palakkad is the ideal place to soak in nature and enjoy a good accommodation as well.

Many hotels, eateries, shops including bus services are in the vicinity of Sultanpet Main Road. Tipu’s Fort, rising above a hill at the end of the town is located at the southern end of Sultanpet Main Road. It is a well-preserved structure and a hotspot for an evening stroll. Presently it houses a children’s park. It was once built by Haider Ali in 1766 was recaptured by the Britishers. The open-air auditorium and museum inside the fort are still there. The Jain Temple on the Kalpathy River is constructed about 500 years ago by a Jain’s head. Palakkad was once dominated by 400 Jan families and this temple was an important evidence of Jain community. The Jain Temple is located just beyond the Chunnambuthara area. It is just 3 km away from the town centre.

Vadakkanthara Temple, Manapullikaavu, Kalipathy Agrahara, Vishwanathswamy Temple, Kumarapuram Temple and Emoor Bhagvathy Temple are some of the major temples to visit in Palakkad. Palakkad has a unique charm. The blissful beauty of the town is alluring. The wonderful atmosphere with great fusion cuisine of Kerala and border secrets of Tamil Nadu makes the places famous for its culinary as well. From tandoori chicken to gobi Manchurian all has got a new twist in this region of Kerala.

Palakkad is also a popular spot for South Indian movie shooting and due to the presence of Palakkad gap, it is also considered as the Gateway to God’s Own Country. At the Foothills of the Western Ghats, Palakkad is a beautiful place to absorb nature.

Coimbatore is the nearest airport from Palakkad. Pollachi is the nearest railway station which is 60 km away. Pollachi is well connected to other parts by regular trains. Palakkad is among the favoured destinations of Kerala. So, getting there is not a hectic task. The spot is reputed for the beautiful landscapes and ancient temples.
