The Most Expensive Travel Destinations In The World

Travel destinations aren’t born equal! Some are better than others, but, more importantly, some are more expensive than others too. Travelling can be expensive as it is, so you want to make sure you’re well prepared for your travel destination.

If you’re trying to stick to a tight budget, it might be worth avoiding the destinations listed below. You can always find more affordable ways to explore expensive cities though. It’s about being aware of how much different things cost so you can prepare your budget or find alternatives.

Here are some of the most expensive destinations in the world right now!

Zurich, Switzerland

The Most Expensive Travel Destinations In The World

We’ve all heard of a Swiss bank account, and you’re going to need a healthy bank balance if you’re thinking about taking a trip to the country anytime soon. Switzerland is, notoriously, one of the most expensive countries in Europe.

Zurich is a beautiful city though. There’s loads of great European architecture, mountains for skiing and Lake Zurich. You’ll never be short of things to do, but you might be short of cash. A drink in a restaurant can cost more than $10.

Cancun, Mexico

Unlike Switzerland, Mexico can be a very cheap country to explore. Cancun is not though. If you’re thinking of travelling around Mexico, I’d recommend skipping over Cancun. You pay a lot of money for the pleasure of being there, and it doesn’t even offer you a glimpse of the authentic Mexico.

There are some stunning beaches and coastlines, but it’s geared towards tourism. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’ll have a good time. But you’re better exploring further away from the beaten track if you want to find out what Mexico is all about.

Seychelles

The Seychelles islands are home to the most expensive hotel in the world. Of course, they’re not all as expensive as the North Island resort. The island is privately owned by a company that runs it as an eco resort. To stay there for one night will set you back $6,695. Seychelles also has the second most expensive hotel in the world.
I suppose it’s the beauty that you pay for. But it’s not the kind of place you can visit unless you’re willing to part with a lot of cash!

Toronto, Canada

Canada is a lot more expensive than most parts of the USA. That has a lot to do with laws and tariffs relating to imports and trade with the United States. The important thing to know is that it’s not a cheap place to visit.

Toronto is a very cosmopolitan city though. It still attracts a lot of young people from all over the world wanting to experience the city.

Tokyo, Japan

The one saving grace for Japan when it comes to prices is that the economy and the yen has been having a difficult time recently. It’s still an incredibly costly place to visit though.

It’s the social scene that costs the most in Tokyo. The food and the nightlife are fantastic, and you can spend weeks exploring all the bars and restaurants down the tiny back alleys. If you do though, it’s sure to take its toll on your bank balance.

If any of these destinations have tempted you in the past, make sure you save up your money for a little longer before booking your flights!
